we’ve all heard about the albino alligators in New York sewers (whether they really exist or not), but what about escaped pet constrictors, i.e. boas and pythons, growing to their typical huge sizes and threatening native wildlife in the Everglades, INCLUDING ALLIGATORS? it may be a teenage boy’s fantasy smackdown match, but species that don’t belong in a habitat can really mess things up. i was in an Explorer post that had a herpetarium, and we had a 9-foot python, but we didn’t let ’em escape.
the results aren’t always pretty, either:
