Pregnant Cat Lovers Beware

hey, i’ve been teaching hazardous waste, lead paint, asbestos, mold/microbial, and radiation for 20 years, but i’ve only had this blog for 11 weeks (thanks for all the visits, but not for the paucity of comments), so i can’t be expected to post everything i know all at once.  i was just cleaning the litter boxes…btw, DO get the clumping kind, and whichever brand says that it’s low-dust, too (for your own health), and i remembered that pregnant women shouldn’t do the cat litter. there’s a chance of contracting toxoplasmosis if one of the kitties has that parasite, Toxoplasma gondii, which can affect all of us (estimated 1/3 of humans have been exposed) but is especially dangerous to the developing fetus. i have cats, always have, always will, sure love ’em, but the felinoids are major carriers of this protozoan. all the more reason for keeping the kitties indoors, along with FIV and feline leukemia, getting runned over by cars or torn apart by raccoons, etc. so remember, if you’re planning on adding to the overpopulation problem, make the guy clean the box. we’re dumb enough already; do we really want this stuff growing inside the next generation even before they’re born?
